Breaking Barriers in Surgical Care: A Robotic-Assisted Triumph By Dr. Gayathri

admin Mar 07, 2025

Surgical advancements have revolutionized patient care, offering safer, minimally invasive options for those with complex medical conditions. One such success story is that of a 130 kg woman battling multiple health challenges, who underwent a groundbreaking robotic-assisted surgery at our center.

A High-Risk Case with Compelling Factors

The patient, a diabetic and hypertensive woman with obesity-related lung issues, initially underwent a hysteroscopy, which yielded a benign report. Despite being advised to adopt a watchful waiting approach, she remained concerned due to her strong family history of uterine and ovarian cancer. Despite the high surgical risks, she was determined to proceed with a hysterectomy for peace of mind and preventive care.

In addition to her primary concern, she also suffered from urinary incontinence and a hernia, necessitating additional corrective procedures.

The Power of Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Given her high-risk profile, a robotic-assisted surgery was chosen as the safest and most effective approach. This minimally invasive technique allowed for: ✔ Precise removal of the uterus while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues. ✔ Correction of urinary incontinence with a tape procedure, improving quality of life. ✔ Hernia repair using mesh placement, addressing structural concerns.

A Remarkable Recovery

Despite the complexity of the surgery, the patient experienced an excellent recovery. She was mobile by the next day, discharged shortly after, and even resumed cycling at home—an inspiring testament to the benefits of robotic-assisted procedures.

By avoiding the risks associated with open surgery, this approach ensured faster healing, reduced pain, and a quicker return to daily activities.

Advancing Women’s Health with Innovation

This case highlights how robotic-assisted surgery is transforming gynecological and general surgical care, especially for high-risk patients. At Fortis, we remain committed to pioneering medical advancements that prioritize patient safety, faster recovery, and improved outcomes.
