Nephrology Experts from Fortis Vasant Kunj Lead Groundbreaking Global Study Report Published in Prestigious Journal

Dr Sanjeev Gulati and Dr Sanshriti Chauhan from the Department of Nephrology  & Kidney Transplant at Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj have led a landmark research study published in the prestigious nephrology journal, Kidney International Reports. The study is the world’s largest prospective multicentre study from India involving six centres, evaluating the use of an indigenously available controlled-release enteric-coated budesonide in patients with primary IgA nephropathy at high risk of disease progression.

The research provides valuable real-world evidence on the effectiveness of an affordable indigenous budesonide formulation in the Indian population, which has remained underrepresented in major global clinical trials. The innovative enteric-coated budesonide approach offers a significantly more accessible and cost-effective treatment alternative for patients in developing countries, while also demonstrating a favourable safety profile.
