Fertility Preservation

admin Jan 23, 2024

Fertility Preservation is a boon in ART and is widely being used by girls who wish to postpone child bearing for one reason or the other. Ita a wonderful way to have your own genetic child enen at later ages.If you are not yet married ,you can go for egg preservation and if you are married but want to delay your childbearing ,fertilised eggs called embryos can be preserved after fusing your eggs with your partner sperms and can be saved for future.

As the age advances ,the chances of having genetic problems in the eggs goes up significantly. Just to give you an example. The chances of Downs syndrome at 30 years of age is 1 in 900 whereas at 40 years of age is 1 in 90 to 100 which is significantly high. So if you freeze your eggs while you are between 30-35, then even if you want childbearing near 40s , the embryos will have same genetic potential as that of 30s . In addition to this as the age advances ,the fertility potential and egg reserve decreases in ovaries and hence its an intelligent option to freeze your eggs.

For egg freezing procedure you need to undergo certain blood test and then hormonal injections start from day2/3 of periods. It typically takes 10-12 days after injections are started to do the procedure. As the procedure happens under short anaesthesia, without any cut on the body , Its a painless procedure and you are discharged the same day. During the 10-11 days of hormonal injections, you can continue doing routine activity .
