Mar 13, 2026 to Mar 13, 2026

Reinforcing the life-saving impact of organ donation and the resilience of transplant recipients, the Department of Nephrology & Urology at Fortis Hospital, Noida, organized a unique support group program titled “Sankalp: Celebration of Life.” The initiative brought together transplant survivors, living organ donors, doctors, and caregivers in a heartfelt gathering dedicated to awareness, gratitude, and shared learning.

The event witnessed the participation of 12 living donor–recipient pairs, celebrating their extraordinary journeys of courage, compassion, and renewed life. In a moving tribute, the program also honoured the family of a cadaver donor, acknowledging the profound legacy created by deceased organ donation and its role in saving multiple lives.

The support group meet was led by Dr. Anuja Porwal, Director – Nephrology & Renal Transplant, Fortis Hospital Noida, who highlighted the importance of continuous medical care and emotional support for transplant patients. The program also featured an engaging medical quiz session hosted by Dr. Shailendra Kumar Goel, Director – Urology, and Dr. Piyush Varshney, Director – Urology, Fortis Hospital Noida, aimed at educating transplant recipients and their families on long-term health management after transplantation.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Anuja Porwal, Director – Nephrology & Renal Transplant, Fortis Hospital Noida, said: “Every transplant represents a remarkable partnership between medical science and human generosity. Through ‘Sankalp: Celebration of Life,’ we wanted to honour the extraordinary courage of donors and recipients while reinforcing the importance of long-term care, awareness, and emotional support for transplant patients. Such platforms also help break myths and encourage more people to consider organ donation.”

Dr. Shailendra Kumar Goel, Director – Urology, Fortis Hospital Noida, added: “Post-transplant care is a lifelong commitment. Through interactive sessions like the medical quiz, we aim to empower patients with knowledge about medication adherence, lifestyle changes, and preventive care. Educated patients are better equipped to protect their transplanted organs and live healthy, fulfilling lives.”

Dr. Piyush Varshney, Director – Urology, Fortis Hospital Noida, said: “Organ donation is one of the most selfless acts a person can perform. When we bring donors and recipients together, we create a powerful reminder of how one decision can transform multiple lives. Such support group meetings foster community, encouragement, and hope for everyone involved in the transplant journey.”

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mohit Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital Noida said: “Organ donation has the power to transform not just one life, but entire families and communities. Through initiatives like ‘Sankalp: Celebration of Life,’ we aim to create greater awareness about the importance of organ donation while building a strong support ecosystem for transplant patients and their families. At Fortis Hospital Noida, we remain committed to advancing transplant care and encouraging more people to come forward and pledge for organ donation, so that many more lives can be saved.”

The event also featured a story-sharing session, where donors and recipients spoke about their personal journeys—from diagnosis and uncertainty to recovery and renewed life. One of the patients said, “A transplant is not just a medical procedure; it is a second chance at life. After my transplant, I realized how precious every day is. I am deeply grateful to my donor and their family, whose generosity gave me the opportunity to live, work, and spend time with my loved ones again. Being part of this gathering reminds us that we are not alone in this journey—there is a whole community supporting and celebrating life together.”

The program concluded with a networking lunch, allowing participants to connect, share experiences, and strengthen the support network within the transplant community. Through initiatives like “Sankalp: Celebration of Life,” Fortis Hospital Noida continues to promote organ donation awareness while building a compassionate ecosystem that supports transplant patients and their families long after surgery.
